In 2000, Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women's Hospital and other institutions conducted a nine-day experiment on 23 volunteers. It is considered that light has obvious influence on the secretion of melatonin in human body.
In July, 2010, a research report in China Journal of Sports Medicine showed that 30 minutes of red light irradiation every day was helpful to improve the sleep quality of female basketball players after training.
In 2021, a team of academicians from China Academy of Sciences and Zhang Hongjie, Tsinghua University, issued a document: Young monkeys living at a low color temperature rich in deep red light have the slowest growth of the eye axis, and the analysis provides more deep red light around 650nm, and other light will fall in front of the retina, resulting in an advanced myopic defocusing effect, which brings extra points to myopia prevention and control; Deep red light has the effect of inhibiting axial growth.

Melanin Luminosity Unit (primarily affected by 480nm blue light)
The melanin illuminance unit quantitatively captures the brightness that affects the circadian rhythm. Unlike traditional illuminance, it is weighted to the illuminance of ipRGCs, which are photoreceptive ganglion cells in the retina. It is used as a standard for assessing circadian rhythms. Melanin exposure to high-intensity light stimulates the secretion of serotonin, a hormone responsible for regulating the body's internal clock, and melatonin is converted from serotonin produced during the day. This, in turn, improves sleep quality.
